Do I need a referral?

No, you don’t need to get a referral or prior authorization for most outpatient mental health and substance use services.

How do I know which program is right for me or my family member?

During our intake process, an experienced access team member will ask questions about your presenting symptoms and history. A mental health professional will then complete a comprehensive evaluation to determine if you meet the criteria necessary for a mental health or substance use disorder diagnosis. The provider will discuss the results with you and develop an individualized treatment plan focused on your needs and personal goals.

What if I don’t have insurance?

RMHC provides mental health and recovery services to everyone, including those without health insurance. No one is denied services due to inability to pay. We operate on a sliding-fee scale. Please reach out to our Billing Team by calling 218-749-2881 or for more information.

Do I get to choose my therapist?

RMHC has 100+ providers ranging from rehab workers, peer specialists and nurses to therapists to everything in between. We can’t guarantee that all of our clinicians will have immediate openings, but our access team and care coordinators will work directly with you to find the best fit. What can I expect at my first appointment?

In most cases, your first appointment will be your comprehensive evaluation. It is important you arrive on time as we will complete any necessary paperwork and we’ll do a quick medical screening prior to the start of your comprehensive evaluation. This initial appointment can take up to two hours, so please plan accordingly.

At the time of scheduling, you’ll be advised how to access your telehealth appointment. You will be directed to use the “telehealth” link on the home page of our website.
